There may still be cardboard and mixed paper bins behind Aledo Middle or Vandergriff Elem. School

The large dumpsters behind the Middle School in Aledo are still there. These dumpsters are for paper, cardboard and phone books. Hopefully this fall, we will have smaller versions of these dumpsters at all the local schools.

What is the best way to dispose of old paint?

Don't they take paint at the periodic county-wide cleanup at the precinct barn in Annetta? I know they take care of antifreeze and other such things.

Yes, I have been told that they will accept "anything" recyclable. This goes for even your larger items like appliances. Parker County does two "clean-up" days a year. One in April and one in October. We will keep you posted on when the October day will be. I have also been told that these clean-up day are not inexpensive. The cost to tax payers being around $40k per year.

Paint is considered a hazardous material and by law can not be put out with our regular trash. That being said, Fort Worth has a facility that accepts these types of materials. Please contact the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Agency at 817-871-5257, which is located at 6400 Bridge Street in Fort Worth.

Andrea,
In regards to your paint comment, I recently read a news article that discussed a city in California (the name escapes me) that started a paint recycling program. What they did was genious. They collect the used paints and then segregate them by general colors. Once they have sufficient quantities of say red, they mix all the various shades of red to make one uniform batch of red paint. They then either give the paint away to needy organizations or they can sell them to people. While I realize that this may be a larger task than Aledo can take on, I thought it was a genious idea.
